I'm aware that i used windows vista in my cafe and im also aware that vista is still in its early stage of release. So i'm expecting for bugs, exploits and software incompatibility in the edition that i installed in all workstations.
Windows vista, for me as an end user, its good for an internet cafe. Since it is used only for emails and browsing. The cafe is almost a month already and everyday we see problems and we provide solutions so we can give the expected service from us. Im not a pro in all things especially in computers. i learned things by trial and error only. I do reading and browsing in all the forums that google will give me in its results. Yes i admit that i failed to give the solution, but its a never ending quest for better life. in every solutions that i provide to every problem in the cafe gives me confidence that i can face more complex problems and that i can provide it with a simple answer, i will give you the solution.
This is what is happening inside the cafe that i'm managing. I'm heading the technical aspects. All my crew/attendant are all knowledgeable in computer hardwares. But still, we admit that things are new. At least we are honest in ourselves and we never brag but put in our hearts and minds that we are in business of giving real service.
Vista is exploited all the time. One of the common problem that we have is the Internet explorer that always halt to process. What we do is to kill the process through our server because we cannot close it in the workstation. When we kill the process successfully then everything will just goes well. From then, we advise our customers to just use Mozilla Firefox instead and we cannot provide more solutions to the problem unless microsoft will do its best to secure their products. Another problem that we encounter is the connection of our workstation to our timer. Sometimes there are 2 or 3 workstation that don't connect to the timer properly and what we do is to just login in the workstation and just put the started time in the server. But we cannot control the workstation time anymore. We just always checked the time that the user will not go beyond the time that he wanted to pay. Aside from that everything goes well.
We are gaining members with an average of 3 person a day. Membership in the cafe is like the Library system. You sign up with your username and we will give the default password. Everybody can avail one. It's hassle free because members don't have to ask the counter anymore if they want to use. They only go inside and look for a free station and login. They can budget the time that they will use. If they doesn't have anymore credits in their accounts they can just reload it through paying from the counter and automatically they can use again their account.
We have very nice computers. Everybody says and praise how we setup the cafe. Its new in town. And so far we only have isolated problems when it comes to connection because we have to 2 redundant connections. if one fails, the other will backup. The only comment that i don't want to hear is that, that we have very nice computer with bad connection. So we should always look at that. But so far, never that we heard that comment from the end-users. If ever that will happen, i will honestly that we fail to provide that.
Everyday in the cafe is fun moment. Since the start, i never had a day that i was not in the cafe. I personally look at how the attendant attends to the needs of the cafe, how the computers functions or fail and how everything flows and how the business is doing its business. So far so good. But still we didn't yet reach the goal that we want, and we are working on it. :)
With all of these, i am grateful to have this responsibility and its a joy working and giving solutions to every needs of the cafe user and a friend to all. :)
