Bluetooth issue with Leopard is with the N73

I was very excited installing Leopard into my MacBook. And I did it under an hour and after figuring out if everything still works, everything really still works. In my last post, Just installed Mac OS X Leopard!, I checked every applications that I used in my daily routine and everything except the Bluetooth goes well.

I thought the Bluetooth issue is with the MacBook, but after Googling, i found out that this is with Nokia N73 issue with the MacBook. It's incompatibility maybe.

In my Bluetooth icon found at the top above, I can add a mobile device. The MacBook Bluetooth can find the N73 device, it can connect and in a while the MacBook Bluetooth configuration will ask you to enter the Pairing Key to authorized the MacBook device to access the N73. So I did enter all the codes and after entering, the MacBook Bluetooth will search for the services that is in the Nokia device and it will search for eternity. The MacBook doesn't hang during this process but just an infinite searching of device. During this process, while searching for the services, the Bluetooth icon of the MacBook is already in the normal state. Meaning it is not connected anymore with the found device. This goes as well with the N73 where the Bluetooth icon don't have anymore the open and close parenthesis.

But then you can found the N73 device already hanging in the menu of the MacBook bluetooth. When I send a file or browse the N73 device from the MacBook, it connects for a while and disconnects. This happen to all the application that connects to the N73 via Bluetooth.

Trying to fix things, I updated my Nokia Multimedia manager from 1.1 to 1.2, but still things doesn't work.

In this forum, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5647902&#5647902, this shows that N73, not only with me, doesn't really works under Mac OS X Leopard until Nokia will do something for this. :)

I think I just have to wait for the fix or maybe I will stumble to a fix.

I still love my devices.

Just installed Mac OS X Leopard!

Fresh from the airport, kuya Rheo fetch me at the amigoas icafe to kick what he had in his bag. I know what it is already, the Mac OSX Leopard installer. I was very happy to see the package. A very nice package, compare to the MS Windows Vista. Clean and black. I think i like it because its black! i really like black things so much. What really amaze me with the package is the hologram effect of the front. With the Big "X" and something like the milky way galaxy holographic image. lols :)

Comes inside the package are the installer CD, the delivery receipt, a Mac logo sticker, and the Installer Manual.

Put the CD to the tray and I started for the Leopard adventure.

I didn't tried installing in my MacBook yet, but I installed first it to my kuya rheo, because, he as well was very excited seeing the amazing Leopard. :)

So we did upgrade his macbook for almost an hour. And in between we have some talks about his trip and had some dinner too. :)

The installation went so smooth. It's my first time to see how Mac installs OS softwares. So different compare to my former religion, the windows. In MS Vista, you have to click next many times. With Leopard, it took only 6 Clicks. First, when you insert the CD, then autorun, you Click the "Upgrade to Leopard". Then you click the "Restart" button. When restarting, it will restart through the CD. It will asked on what language you prefer to use, then click next. Then it goes through asking if you Agree or Disagree, then where to install and there it goes straight installing up to the end that when you come back, you are now with Leopard interface with the same setup with the former OS X Tiger. The same programs in the Dock, the Parallel works fine and the preferences and the wallpapers stays. What you want to do next?

So I started installing again, now into my Mac Book. After the welcome animation and after everything, I checked first my important program.

Open up for CSS designs.

I like designing web pages. Designing might not be my strength, but i work hard for designs to every websites that i'm doing. Even though I can't design that good, but learning the CSS-way is far more very good. Using CSS in your websites can dramatically increase your website loading performance especially if you use external CSS files.

CSS represents the design layer of a page. If HTML is for structuring the content of a page, then CSS job is on how to present the content of the page. It provides how the HTML be displayed in your browser. The color, borders, font-sizes and its types can be defined in a block of style. Be it internal, inline or external styles, doesn't matter. But deciding on what to use will give you headache-free. Will save you hours of time for revamping multiple-paged websites.

A lot of good websites nowadays are really designed with CSS. CSS short for Cascading Style Sheets.

I won't be guiding you step-by-step on CSS here, but i will just lure you that using CSS in your websites has a lot of advantage especially using tableless-layouts. A lot of web developers and designers that i knew even have a hard time working with CSS. These guys really handles big projects but they don't consider using stylesheets.

But if you really wanted to learn CSS, do it. Don't care about those projects, care that you will learn the latest standards and recommended way of web developing. Projects will just come to you if you have a very good and clean codes and know the latest. Give your client pain-free output especially with design problems.

There's more advantages in learning it than just sitting down working with tables. I myself has stopped working with tables already. I'm not discouraging you from tables, but learn what is new and good.

Learning is fun. It's challenging. I'm not afraid of it. You should not be afraid of it. I learned PHP just by self-studying. So switching from tables to tableless layout is not that bloody compare to PHP.

That's why i'm revamping all my CMS just to switch to CSS layouts. It's fun working on it because you're giving yourself a chance to learn again. Be open for new ideas and trends in web developing because with CSS it will help you also design websites in which has impact when it comes to search engine optimization.

If you want to learn more about Cascading Style Sheets here are some links to site that I recommend:

In our CSS tutorial you will learn how to use CSS to control the style and layout of multiple Web pages all at once.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets
In web development, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but the language can be applied to any kind of XML document, including SVG and XUL.

Send-Receive SMS and Calls with Macbook via N73

I love to work. It's one of my passions, to be productive. And also, I love texting. Not that I like textmates, but i have to accept the reality right now that you can reach everybody through SMS or calling them through their numbers.

But texting to me sometimes is very annoying especially if you are working and really focusing much on your work or in your pressure mode. Let say, you are rushing things up then you have your friend or client annoying you so much through texting. He send messages to you asking instructions and you of course, you have to reply. In my case, i don't reply most of the time especially it its not that important really. Texting a lot of characters or giving instructions through SMS really takes time especially if you have an annoying keypad too.

So the problem is, I want to speed up and make things easy and be more productive too. And pleasing my textmates by replying to them promptly without dragging my fingers from the keyboard to the keypads.

Nowadays phones have Bluetooth and if you are lucky enough, you might as well have a s60-Nokia Phone, mine is a Nokia N73 Music Edition and a Apple Mac laptop.

So we have the perfect gadgets. A Nokia N73 and a Macbook. The two gadgets will used their Bluetooth power.

I found this software from Mira Software called Bluephone Elite version 2. Their taglines says, "Your Mobile Phone on your Mac". This one costs $24USD. I'm already using the trial version before deciding if I have to buy it or not. Of course, this is really a good one so far that I found after googling for other good softwares that match my stuffs.

Download the software, then install it. Before it ends installing, a S60 software will be sent to your phone via bluetooth for phone installation. Open the new message, then the installer will install itself. The Bluephon Elite program will be installed in your Macbook, as well as in your N73. In N73 the program is called, BPEnabler. This program can be run automatically. The two should be running together for them to communicate wirelessly.

Activate the BPEnabler to connect it to the Macbook Bluephone Elite

What i like in this application is that, you will always have your N73 data and status in your Macbook tray. It has a Signal Status and a Battery indicator. So you don't have to worry if you have a 5-bar or out of the coverage area or if your battery is draining already. This means that you can just keep your mobile phone in your pocket or just hide it somewhere else as long as the Bluetooth signal is strong between the 2 devices.

When your phone and Macbook is connected via bluetooth and Blue Phone Elite is running and so your BPenabler in your phone is active, a status indicator icon in your phone will appear that looks like a car. And in your Macbook, the signal and battery indicator is displayed.

When it comes to SMS, it displays automatically in your screen if you have a New SMS. Displaying it or whatever you wanted just to be notified for new SMS can be configured in the Preferences section. Also with the famous filipino-notification style, the "missed call" and calls. Your Macbook can be used for calling and receving calls too. A notification will be displayed in the screen in real time. The only miss that they didn't include in the software is that, it doesn't synchronized the Read SMS to your phone. So if you have a new SMS, in your phone it will always be displayed that you have a New Message. So your New Messages will pile-up.

But, everything is worth if you talk productivity within your self and your gadgets. You won't be using your phone that much and saving some keypad's usage. So texting, copying and pasting is fast using your computer keyboard. This is very nice and you will really enjoy if you have a lot of textmates! lols...

So give yourself a try of this. I will be trying this also with my HP Ipaq 6365 Phone. Because you can add as many phones as you have in the Preference section of the Bluephone Elite.

Composing eMail with Yahoo Search strings

I just had found this trick on how to automatically create or compose a new email with your Yahoo! Account using only the Yahoo! Search field. Any search field that is linked with Yahoo! Search like the Yahoo! Web Search in their homepage or with Yahoo! Toolbar. Be sure that you have a Yahoo! Mail account. If you're not logged in, this will work also but you will be landed in Yahoo! login form to authenticate yourself.

Just by typing this search string in any Yahoo! Search field:
!mail emai@domain.com, it will automatically opens your Yahoo! Email with the Compose form.

Composing eMail with Yahoo! Search strings

You can do it also with the Yahoo! Search Bar in your browser or in Firefox.

I tried the search string in Yahoo! Webs search through Yahoo! Messenger and it works fine too..

great trick for easy composing of emails for the day!

Amigoas iCafe is closed for All saint's day!

Amigoas internet cafe is closed until november 2, 2007 @ 3:00 pm for the All Saint's day. We will be back online on november 2, 2007 at 3:00 pm.

But we did not just let the holiday pass. To better serve the best of our customers, we did a general cleaning inside the cafe. This is to ensure the cleanliness of the cafe and the smoothness of the operation of the computer. By then, we can really say that we are working on problems technically. :) This includes virus scanning, installing needed applications and reinstalling those corrupted softwares. And also today, we installed to most stations the latest beta of the Yahoo! Messenger, the version 9.0. I know for the fact that this is not yet a stable program, so we didn't take away the stable release of the famous instant messenger. :)

For the last 2 weeks, we renovated our 2nd floor so we can start to operate upstairs. Possibly, there will be 12-15 computers upstairs. The stations upstairs is open for everybody unless we will use it for tutorial purposes or someone will rent it. The upstairs facility has another room also that can be used for meetings and conferences. We will put 4 computers also there that can be used by everybody but with different charge. The feature for that is that you will not be disturbed, but you will really have a good time chatting and surfing the net.

Because of these, soon i will be announcing when we can start tutoring for PHP. :) wait for it.. :)

Here are some pictures from upstairs:

Upstairs for tutorials soon

More pictures in my flickr account.

:) kita kits again.
